The Stokes Pro-Am Jump Competition took place last week sponsored by John and Sylvia Phillips. Featuring the best Water Ski Jumpers in the World and some pretty good amateurs we were treated to two days of exciting jumping. The cash prizes for the Pro’s totalled $27,000 and the first prize of $9,000 was won by Ryan Dodd with a huge leap of 71.6 metres.
Thank to all the Hazelwood familyfor hosting the event and to John and Sylvia for making it possible.
Combined National Championships – Gosfield
The Combined National Championships took place at Gosfield Lake recently and despite a somewhat windy weather forecast for the Saturday some schedule changes ensured that the Championships were completed. The Combined format worked well and seemed to be well received by all the competitors.
A big thank you to Vince and Emma Turp for their great work in organising the event and to all the Turps family for their hospitality. Also thanks to all the Officials who worked tirelessly over the four days to ensure all worked well. It takes a great team to make sure that an event like this goes well and from the Jetty Crew, rescue team, Judges, Drivers, Scorers and Homologator we certainly had that.
Friends of Tournament 200 Club July Draw
The draw for July took place at Dams Watersports at South Lake during a Squad Training Day funded by Friends of Tournament.
The Winners are:
1st Vince Turp £360 No.3
2nd Patric Foley-Brickley £240 No.17
3rd Jill Howard £120 No.65
Congratulations to them and thanks to the ticket holders for your generosity in supporting this fund raising initiative.
We had 96 balls in the bag for the July draw but anticipate that we will exceed ONE HUNDRED in August.
So far this year FoT funds have helped run six early season Development Days for skiers who are mostly not yet competing, two Squad Training days and the six skiers who represented GBR at the World Youth Championships in Sesena will shortly be receiving a £300 contribution towards their costs of travel, training etc for this event.
Friends of Tournament 200 Club June Draw
We added another two ticket holders for the June draw bringing our total to 92…..another step towards the magic 100.
There are already another two included for the July draw which will take place early August, maybe during the Stokes Pro-Am jump event at Hazelwoods.
So only 6 more needed to meet our 2018 target of 100.
Congratulations to our June draw winners:
1st Jodi’s Ski School £345 No. 150
2nd Val Parkin £230 No. 20
3rd Colin Horne £115 No. 23
FoT has already provided financial support for six development days at various ski clubs where young skiers have had a day of coaching and have been given a Competitors Tournament Licence. So hopefully we will see some of them in future events. In addition FoT has organised two Squad training days to take place at South Lake with Damien Ackerer in early August. Collective squad training has not been possible for some years due to funding levels, so here is a great example of where FoT is making a difference. Around 30 Youth, U21 and Open skiers representing GBR in European and World events will receive at least £300 towards their travel and participation costs this year.
Combined British Nationals Gosfield
We are a week away from our Combined British Nationals at Gosfield and are hoping that this good weather will continue for the event. The official closing date for entries has now passed but late entries can still be accepted for the payment of a small extra fee.
Having reviewed the schedule we have decided that on Day 1, Wednesday 25th July we will start at 9.00am rather than 8.00am. The other days remain with an 8.00am start.

Combined British National Championships
The 2018 Combined National Championships at Gosfield are only just over two weeks away. The closing date for entries is 16th July so if you are still considering taking part its not too late. Some people have asked why the Championships have been combined this year. We the main reason is that no Club bid to host the Senior Championships so the only solution thanks to Vince Turp and Gosfield was to combine them. We have organised the schedule so that Senior Slalom Skiers do not need to attend on Day 1.
We hope that the format will generate a great atmosphere over the four days of Competition.
